On Tuesday 15 October, models Valentina Sampaio and Alex Consani, who stood out on the catwalk at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in New York, became the first trans women to walk in the legendary show.

On her personal Instagram page, Sampaio shared a video of herself walking in the fashion show, wearing black lingerie, huge black bows tied around her back and a hairstyle reminiscent of a lioness.  She thanked the brand for making her dream come true.

Valentina Sampaio was born on 10 December 1996 in the Brazilian state of Ceara to a teacher mother and a fisherman father. Valentina Sampaio did not disclose her birth name before her name in any source.

‘The Victoria’s Secret family showed the world that being trans is as exceptional and beautiful as anyone on that catwalk,’ she added. ‘Inclusivity is so important to the world we are building and I am honoured to walk with pride, love and the hope to inspire future generations.’

Sampaio managed to make history with Victoria’s Secret for the second time in her career. Previously, the model appeared in a brand campaign in 2019. The following year, Sampaio made history as the first known transgender woman to pose for Sports Illustrated.

Alex Consani is an American model and social media celebrity. Consani was born on 23 July 2003 in Petaluma, California. His mother works in water conservation and his father works for Guide Dogs for the Blind. She started modelling in 2015 and also made history as the world’s youngest transgender model at the age of 12.

‘I’m just one of the few trans women here today, and I’m really happy for that and I’m proud to be able to be here and represent my community,’ Consani told TODAY.com backstage before the show began. Taking part in Victoria’s Secret’s show is all about self-confidence, Consani said, adding that she was very happy to be able to do it.

On the catwalk, Consani managed to attract all the attention with her wonderful wings, satin shiny underwear and bleached eyebrows. The model was also admired for her gait and air.

Consani went viral on TikTok during the pandemic in 2020. She then amassed more than 3.3 million followers on the app. She then walked in fashion shows for various world-famous brands, including Burberry, Chloe and Roberto Cavalli, and appeared in the music video for pop sensation Charlie XCX’s hit song ‘360’.

Victoria’s Secret also featured plus-size model Ashley Graham in this year’s fashion show with the understanding of ‘inclusiveness’, which has been its vision since 2021.
